Children’s Festival

The Shoalhaven Readers’ and Writers’ Festival (Free Children’s Program)      

Young readers and writers are invited to enjoy our special Children’s Program at the Nowra Library! Meet authors Tim Harris (Mr Bambuckle’s Remarkables) and the wonderful Jackie French!

Authors will be available to sign their books after their sessions, and Dean Swift Books will have books for sale on the day.

All events on the SRWF Children’s Program are FREE, but numbers are limited so be sure to book a place! Watch the Shoalhaven Libraries website for event information.

10am   Story Time + craft

You’re never too young to discover the joys of reading! Settle in and enjoy a story and some craft activities.  (Age 2-5)


11.00am-12.00pm   A remarkable appearance by Tim Harris

Untitled designMr Bambuckle’s Remarkables was one of the runaway smash hits in Australian children’s literature last year, and the rollicking sequel, Mr Bambuckle’s Remarkables Fight Back, is here!  Join the author Tim Harris for an exciting and quirky adventure into the world of reading and writing. And perhaps an Exploding Ending or two. (Age 8+)




1.30pm-2.30pm   Meet Jackie French

One of Australia’s best-loved authors, Jackie French has written more than 200 books for children (and adults) (and wombats) and will share all her warmth, wit and wisdom about reaading and writing in this not-to-be-missed event.

Jackie loves it when her audiences get involved, so she will be awarding some special (book) prizes for those who wear costumes. Categories are:

Best koala or wombat* (any age)

• A ‘book parade’ with a difference: Prizes for the best book costume… not a favourite character from a book, but the book itself.

‘Book parade’ awards will be given in the following categories:

–Under 10, 



–over 65.

*Kangaroos will be disqualified, but may compete in the Best Book Costume

School visits


The Shoalhaven Readers’ And Writers’ Festival Children’s Program will also incorporate two author visits to schools by local author A.L. Tait. These will take place on Friday 3 August, 2018.
